What is NVME_READ_ONLY?
The solid state drive controller detects media wear or flash array errors and locks itself in read-only write-protection to prevent further data loss. The user can read files but cannot save, modify, or format the drive.
Common Causes
- SSD write endurance limit (TBW) exceeded
- Critical controller hardware failure
- Excessive bad blocks
Step-by-Step Fix Guide
-
1
Backup all files from the drive immediately
Backing up data is your immediate top priority. A read-only locked SSD is near complete physical failure.
-
2
Buy a replacement SSD
Replacing the drive is the only way to recover normal write operations.
-
3
Use SSD manufacturer software to check spare block count
