What is AUDIO-CONTROLLER-NO-SOUND?
The onboard audio controller reports Code 10 (This device cannot start) in Device Manager, resulting in complete loss of audio. This is extremely common after Windows updates that replace audio drivers, or when the Realtek HD Audio driver conflicts with Intel's Smart Sound Technology (SST) driver on modern platforms.
Common Causes
- Driver conflict between Realtek and Intel SST
- Windows Update replaced audio driver
- BIOS audio controller disabled
Step-by-Step Fix Guide
-
1
Uninstall conflicting audio drivers in Device Manager
Always download Realtek audio drivers from your motherboard manufacturer's support page, not from generic Realtek websites, to get the correct variant for your platform.
-
2
Download Realtek driver from motherboard manufacturer website
Intel SST and Realtek drivers frequently conflict — uninstall both, then reinstall only the manufacturer's driver package.
-
3
Enable HD Audio Controller in BIOS if disabled
